Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is the examining of the levels of addiction of non-sedentary individuals to exercise. Participants are voluntary women and men who have been exercising regularly for at least one year. Method: Exercise Addiction Scale-21 adapted to Turkish by Yeltepe and İkizler (2007) developed by Hausenblas and Downs (2002) was applied to the participants with a questionnaire asking demographic features. The data obtained were evaluated by using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann Whitney-U tests in SPSS 11.5 statistics program. Results: In the evaluation of the result, p <0.05 value was accepted as significant. 2.8% of the participants were determined as addicted, 57.4% as symptomatic and 39.8% asymptomatic. Exercise addiction total score values that can be taken from the scale are between 21 and 126. The average value of the research group on the total score was determined as 66.25 ± 17.87. In the study, it was found that exercise addiction level was the most symptomatic (57.4%). Considering the average age of the participants, the highest rate with 110 participants (43.0%) is 18 years old and under, the highest rate with the participation of 129 participants (50.4%) is the high school graduate / student, 170 participants according to the occupational distribution of the participants the highest rate (66.4%) was found to be students. Conclusion: According to these findings, it can be said that young people aged 18 and under who are exercising are students as occupational groups and that young people with high education level may be addicted to exercise.

Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılanların %2,8’i bağımlı, %57,4’ü semptomatik, %39,8’i asemptomatik olarak tespit edilmiştir.
