Abstract

Anger is an emotional reaction of people to various situations, events, people and ob-jects. While experiencing this emotional response under control is a positive development, experiencing it uncontrolled brings many negativities. It is known that personality traits and cognitions are effective in anger emotions that people have. In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationships between perfectionism, irrational beliefs and trait anger. For this purpose, a questionnaire including sociodemographic information form, Shortened General Attitude and Belief Scale (SGABS), Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS) and Trait Anger Scale was applied to the participants. A total of 193 people, 149 women and 44 men, participated in the study. In the comparison analysis, perfectionism and trait anger scores of women were found to be higher than men. A statistically significant relationship was found between perfectionism, irrational beliefs and trait anger. Finally, it was seen that irrational beliefs had a partial mediating role in the relationship between perfectionism and trait anger. Perfectionist personality traits and irrational beliefs are considered to be important in unders-tanding the etiology of anger and in the use of effective psychotherapy techniques.
