Abstract

The development of information society caused by technological movement and globalization in the world emphasizes the importance of changes in the educational field. Developed countries give importance to education which cannot be separated from information society. People today have great needs in getting, developing, sharing and keeping information in order to adapt to these technological developments. So, one of the newest developments- the Internet- causes and forces people to adopt to the rapid change. The positive effects of computers and Internet, which are parts of communication technologies, make it possible to access information any time and at any place. Fast and continuing learning is necessary in information societies. That’s why attitudes towards learning are going to change and life long learning gets more important next to school education. The integration of Internet into everyday life activities also influences the educational area. With the development of technological methods learning becomes faster and easier. In order to intergrate computers and Internet into the educational system a new method, called e-learning is born. E-learning which provides faster learning with low costs can be used as an interactive learning model for each person individually with regard to his/her own learning style. With the growth of computer based education at schools the use of elearning and technology in lessons will increase. So, students and also adults, namely teachers and staff, have to learn to cope with the new methods (elearning)in education. In this study, the effects of e-learning on education were analized with regard to the information society and the globalization process in the world.Key words : E-learning, computer-based education, globalization, information technology, life-long learning, Internet
