These units of measure have changed in order to keep up with the time. It is clear that these units of measure does not always give a specific and certain unit. These units, even in the Turkey Turkish, can be different according to the time, used regions and dialects. A pinch, until hell freezes over, as heavy as hell , etc... Most of the units of measure are not used in these days. But they can be found in some proverbs, phrases, ballads and folk songs. Among the units which are used, we can find loan-words. Günümüzde eskiden olduğu gibi geçerli resmi ölçü birimlerinin yanında, anlamlarını, değerlerini ancak halkın bildiği bazı ölçü birimleri de kullanılmaktadır. Bu ölçü birimleri zamana uygunluk açısından değişiklikler göstermiştir. Bu ölçülerin her zaman belirli ve kesin bir birimi vermedikleri görülür. Bu değerler, Türkiye Türkçesinde de zamana, kullanıldıkları bölgelere ve ağızlara göre değişiklik gösterir. Bir tutam, bikırtik, eşek sudan gelen kadar, it ölüsü gibi ağır vb. Ölçü birimlerinin pek çoğu günümüzde kullanılmamaktadır. Ancak bazı atasözleri, deyimler, manilerde ve türkülerde yaşamaktadır. Kullanılan birimlerin içerisinde farklı dillerden dilimize girmiş sözcükler de vardır. Derleme sözlüğü başta olmak üzere taranan kaynaklardan ve derleme yoluyla tespit edilen ölçü birimleri uzunluk, ağırlık, zaman, mesafe, miktar vb. başlıklar altında tasnif ve tahlil edilmiştir.
