Abstract

The system of international relations with Westphalia, which establied about 400 years ago, is essentially a dimension of the power reading that has existed for centuries. However, this partial definition corresponds to a concept that has historically existed for centuries: Great power. The aim of the definition of great power can be seen as the basic factors of international Relations which is same in the definition of hierarchical power logic. In this respect, the empires that existed throughout history have been thought to have ended in the early 20th century, but in fact they maintian their existence with great power forms. In addition, these states, which are called as great powers, are the decision-making and driving forces of the system against global and regional events. At this point, our examination example, Russian Federation is one of the examples that passed through the position of empire and great power in the historical process. So in the scope of this study, the transition of the Russian Federation briefly discuss in the international area.
