Abstract

Oral mucosal desquamation is a common manifestation of a number of pathologic conditions. The differential diagnosis may range from chemical and electrical burns to conditions such as allergic reactions, hormonal disorders, and mucocutenous conditions. Similar appearances may be seen in reactions to various mouthwashes, chewing gum, medications and dental materials. This clinical report describes the effect of misused chlorhexidine digluconate on gingiva and mucosa. A 41 year-old white woman, who had desquamative lesions on mandibular mucosa and gingiva, was referred to us. Intraoral examinations revealed large desquamative lesions on mandibular premolar and molar regions bilaterally. The patient used the chlorhexidine digluconate for 15 minutes daily. The mouth wash was discontinued and the patient was called for follow-up visit. Seven days later there was no desquamative lesion in mandibular molar regions.

Alınan anamnezde hastanın günde15 dakika olacak şekilde bir hafta süreyle klorheksidiniçeren ağız gargarası kullandığı öğrenilmiştir.
