Abstract
This study was performed to investigate Eimeria species in pigeons in Elazığ district in the year of 2000. The fecal samples were microscopically examined by means of zinc sulphate flotation method for coccidial agents. Eight out of 53 pigeons (15.09 %) were found to be infected with coccidia. Positive fecal samples were mixed with a 2.5 % solution of potassium bichromate and placed separately into petri dishes for sporulation. Two species of Eimeria including E.labbeana and E.columbarum were found in the examination of sporulated fecal samples. The two pathogenic coccidia reported here caused mixed infection.
Özet
Bu çalışma 2000 yılı içerisinde Elazığ şehir merkezinden elde edilen güvercinlerde (Columba livia) coccidia etkenlerini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Güvercinlerden elde edilen dışkı örnekleri çinko sülfat flotasyon metodu ile hazırlanarak mikroskopik muayeneye tabi tutulmuş, muayene edilen 53 .örnekten 8'inin (% 15.09) coccidia ookisti taşıdığı görülmüştür. Müsbet dışkı örnekleri % 2.5'lik potasyum dikromat solüsyonu ile karıştırılarak, ayrı ayrı petri kutularına ince bir tabaka teşkil edecek şekilde yerleştirilmiş ve sporlanmaya bırakılmıştır. Sporlanmış örneklerden yapılan bakılarda müsbet 8 numunenin hepsinde Eimeria labbeana ve E. columbarum türlerinin ookistleri beraber bulunmuştur.
