Abstract

In the past, many regional studies were implemented for Turkey. However, no comprehensive study has been conducted on the nodal regions. Besides, globalization, technological developments, urban population growth, socio- economic changes necessitated the reconfiguration of the regional approach and the definition of relations between settlements. In this context, YER-SİS, the first regional study in the field of stratification of settlements and determination of nodal zones, Urban and Rural Settlement Systems Research study was conducted in Turkey. In the study, province/district data were collected from administrative organizations and various constraints such as provincial neighborhood, service rate, distance, and connectivity to the top center were introduced to examine the urban center settlements and their relations with each other in more detail, and the resulting nodal regions and the number of settlements connected to them were examined by applying different variations of these constraints. As a result, different nodal regions and their associated settlements emerged in cases where the constraints were determined, and as the constraints have changed, the number of settlements.
