Abstract

A highly toxic chemical intended to harm, kill, incapacitate or control adversaries in cases of warfare, terrorist attacks or riots is called a chemical warfare agent (CWA). Although the use of toxic chemical dates back to the BC in warfare, modern chemical weapons were not used at full scale until World War I. A variety of CWAs have been developed and deployed use from World War I until now. CWAs currently is being used despite of international agreements and defined as weapons of mass destruction due to holocausts. Forensic toxicology is a discipline of forensic sciences for poisoning. In applications, it aim for determination of toxic substance in biological samples obtained forensic cases as postmortem and antemortem using the appropriate analytical methods. Accordingly, the investigations conducted on forensic cases suspected exposure of chemical weapons is point of forensic toxicology and this clear the air is important a legal responsibility in international justice. As a result of analysis of biological samples, whether there are exposure to CWAs are qualitatively and quantitatively shown. The detection of CWAs and free metabolites provides valuable evidence that the legal system may be considered for cases of warfare's and terrorist attacks. In this study, toxicological analysis methods of the most common CWAs, such as nerve agents and vesicants in biological samples and research on their advantages and limitations will be presented.
