Abstract

Objective: Te aim of this study was to investigate theefect of unilateral transverse posterior cordotomy onthe quality of life of patients with bilateral vocal foldparalysis. Methods: Tis study included 19 patients with bilateralvocal fold paralysis who underwent unilateral transverseposterior cordotomy between 2007 and 2012. Assess- ment of preoperative and postoperative quality of lifeof the patients was performed using the Short Form-36(SF-36) quality of life survey. Results: Te etiology of bilateral vocal fold paralysis wasthyroid surgery in 18 patients. It was idiopathic in 1 pa- tient. Cold knife was used in 12 patients and CO2 laser was used in 7 patients for posterior cordotomy. Acuteupper airway obstruction developed in 1 patient who re-quired tracheotomy. No other signifcant complicationshave been noted. We found a statistically signifcant im-provement in all SF-36 subscale scores postoperatively (p

Özet

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı bilateral vokal kord paralizili(BVKP) hastalarda posterior unilateral transvers kordoto- minin yaşam kalitesi üzerine etkisini araştırmaktır. Yöntemler: Bu çalışmaya 2007 ve 2012 yıllarında poste- rior unilateral transvers kordotomi yapılan BVKPli 19hasta dahil edildi. Hastaların preoperatif ve postoperatifyaşam kalitesi Kısa Form-36 (SF-36) yaşam kalitesi an- keti kullanılarak değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Bilateral vokal kord paralizisinin nedeni 18hastada tiroid cerrahisi idi. Bir hastada BVKP idyopa- tikti. Posterior kordotomi için 12 hastada soğuk bıçak,yedi hastada karbondioksit (CO 2) lazer kullanıldı. Bir hastada trakeotomi gerektiren akut üst havayolu tıka-nıklığı gelişti. Diğer hastalarda önemli bir komplikasyongörülmedi. Postoperatif dönemde yaşam kalitesi anketialtölçek skorlarının tamamında istatistiksel olarak an-lamlı düzelme bulundu (p
