Abstract

Objective: Today AIDS is an important public health problem in our country, as it is all over the world today. This study was conducted to evaluate the outcomes of laboratory testing of HIV in Elazig province between 2010 and 2018. Method: According to the data of all hospitals in Elazig province, 495 patients with suspected HIV were evaluated retrospectively. Results: Of the 495 patients, 168 (33.9%) were female and 327 (66.1%) were male. Annual analyses showed an increase in the number of patients tested every coming year. HIV positivity rate was found to be higher in male patients (88.5%) compared to females (11.5%). A total of 208 HIV-positive patients were 21-30 (38.5%) 31-40 (26.9%), 41-50 (17,8%), 51 (13%) years of age. Six patients confirmed as HIV positive cases died within a year. Conclusion: HIV prevalence in our city tends to increase year by year. Our data are consistent with HIV data across the country. In order to prevent this epidemic, the public needs to be educated about sexually transmitted infections so as to further raise their awareness.

Bulgular: Dört yüz doksan beş hastanın 168’i (%33.9) kadın, 327’si (% 66.1) erkek idi.Sonuçlar yıllar açısından incelendiğinde, her yıl tetkik edilen hasta sayısında artış sap-tandı. HIV virüsünün pozitif çıkma oranı, erkek hastalarda (%88.5) kadın hastalara(%11.5) kıyasla daha yüksek bulundu. HIV pozitif 208 hastanın %38.5’i 21-30 yaş,%26.9’u 31-40 yaş, %17.8’i 41-50 yaş, %3.8’i 51 yaş idi.
