Abstract

Objective: To determine the effects of epidermal growth factor and granulosa cell co-culture, together or alone, on the development of early human embryo. Institution: GATA IVF Center. Material and Methods: Spare grade A-C (n=123) embryos from 92 patients after day 2-3 transfers which were not requested to be cryopreserved were included in our study. Embryos were randomly separated into 4 groups. 100 ng/ml human recombinant epidermal growth factor (hrEGF) was added into the culture mediums of group-1 embryos. Granulosa cells were co-cultured with group-2 embryos. 100 ng/ml hrEGF was added into the culture mediums of group-3 embryos which were also co-cultured with granulosa cells. Group-4 was the control group. Study and control groups were followed up at 4th, 5th 6th and 7th days. Those which reached blastocyst stage and hatched were recorded. Results: Statistical analysis revealed no significant difference between study and control groups. Conclusion: hrEGF and co-culturing with granulosa cells do not increase blastocycst formation and hatching rates in human embryos which were in-vitro followed up.
