Abstract

Objective: It was aimed to compare the subfoveal and peripapillary choroidal thickness values of amblyopic and fellow eyes of newly diagnosed anisometropic hyperopic amblyopia patients among themselves and with healthy emmetropic control group. Material and Method: The prospective study included 21 newly diagnosed anisometropic hyperopic amblyopia patients and 20 healthy emmetropic children. Subfoveal and peripapillary (nasal, temporal, superior and inferior quadrants 1000 μm away from the optic nerve) choroidal thickness values of all patients were calculated manually from enhanced depth imaging-optical coherence tomography images. Axial length, best corrected visual acuity and refractive errors were also evaluated. Results: The mean age of the anisometropic amblyopia patients was 8.4±2.6 (5-13) years, and 11 were male and 10 were female. There was no difference between amblyopia and healthy children in terms of demographic data. The mean spherical equivalent difference between the two eyes in anisometropic amblyopia patients was 4.3±1.9 (1.5-7) D. Mean subfoveal choroidal thickness was significantly higher in amblyopic eyes than in fellow eyes (p
