Abstract

Hepatic actinomycosis consist 5% of all actinomycotiç infections. Hepatic lesions can be seen 15% of all abdominal actinomycosis. The lesions are mostly single abscess, which usually mimic malignant tumors. Generally, these rare lesions are reported as inflammatory pseudotumors of liver. They occur predominantly in males between the ages of 4-86. Abdominal pain, weight loss, fever are main symptoms. They may mimic malignancy clinically and radiologically. This patient we present was a 28 years old male complaining of weight loss, fever and abdominal pain. After examining the patient, two masses with malignant characteristics were determined in the liver. Due to the initial diagnosis of hepatic carcinoma, right lobectomy was performed. Histopathological evaluation of mass revealed abscess formation with the sulfur granules surrounded by chronic inflammation, fibrosis and degenerative changes in the liver. It is seen that these findings are in relation with the tissue form of actinomyces. Regarding it is rarity and potential to be diagnosed as malignancy, this case was presented with review of the recent literature.
