Abstract

SSPE is a fatal neuropsychiatric problem characterized by behavioral and psychiatric abnormalities, progressive dementia, myoclonic jerks and other focal neurologic signs, is a late and a very serious complication of an aborted form of the wild measles virus. Although the incidence of SSPE has markedly decreased in developed countries it is still a very important problem for Turkey and other developing countries because of ineffective vaccination mainly. We retrospectively studied 34 SSPE patients (8 female, 26 male) who were hospitalized in our clinic between the years 1996-2005 and compare the clinical characteristics of our patients with the literature
