Abstract

Aim: In this study, left atrial functions of patients with rheumatic mitralstenosis and sinus rhythm, which was determined by transthorasicechocardiography, was compared with those of healhty subjects and theassociation of left atrial functions with functional capacity was investigated insubgroup analyses. Material and Method: 32 patients with isolated rheumaticmitral stenosis (median age was 39.1±11) (group 1) and 20 patients in thecontrol group ( median age was 37±8,2) (group 2) were enrolled to study. Theaverage mitral valve area of patients was 1.1±0,3 cm2. When patients weredivided according to New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification ; 16patients were NYHA 2 (Grup A) and 16 patients were NYHA 3 (Grup B). Leftatrium diameters, left atrium volume, left atrium fractional area change andleft atrium ejection fractions of patients in these groups were calculated. Results: Left atrium ejection fraction (LAEF) and left atrium fractionalarea change (LAFAC) that were determined echocardiographycally weresignificantly lower in patients with mitral stenosis (32 ± 5, 44 ± 3; p

Özet

Amaç: Bu çalışmada sinüs ritimli romatizmal mitral darlıklı hastalarda transtorasik ekokardiyografi ile saptanan sol atriyal fonksiyonlar normal populasyonla karşılaştırıldı ve alt grup analizlerinde fonksiyonel kapasite ile olan ilişkisi araştırıldı. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya izole romatizmal mitral darlığı saptanan (grup 1) 32 hasta ( ort. yaş 39.1±11) ve kontrol grubu olarak (grup 2) 20 hasta (ort. yaş 37±8,2) alındı. Hastaların ortalama mitral kapak alanı 1.1±0,3 cm2 idi. Hastalar New York Heart Association (NYHA) sınıflandırmasına göre ayrıldığında, 16 hasta NYHA sınıf 2 (Grup A) ve 16 hasta NYHA sınıf 3 (Grup B)tü.
