Abstract

Aim: Bone Mineral Density (BMD) is influenced by such factors as ethnicity, genetics, gender, age, environment and geographical location. The aimof this study is to compare our own regional BMD means by using LunarDPX in Kastamonu and area Women Turkısh Populatıon with the HealtyTurkısh Populatıon standardization data of used by the producer/importercompany. Material and Method: Following the procedure of informing thefield-community about the study by the volunteering people, institutionsand organizations, this cross-sectional study was carried out in Kastamonuprovince between the years 2009 and 2011. Of 510 healthy participantswho applied to four health care institutions which had Dual Energy X-RayAbsorptiometry devices (DEXA) in Kastamonu province, were selectedaccording to the inclusion criteria. The results of 510 cases using Lunar- DPX scanner, were evaluated in the study. Bone Densitometry scans weredone according to national and international guidelines. BMD measurementswere done at L2-L4 vertebrae and at the total proximal femur. The resultswere compared with Lunar DEXA reference study according to age groups.Compatibility of our data to normal distribution using the Kolmogorov- Smirnov test with SPSS 11.00 was checked. Parametric data analysiswas performed by Independent groups t-test between means testingwith statistical software package Statistic Calculator. P value
