Abstract

A network of 24 IGS permanent stations in the near and far neighborhood of the Anatolian Plate has been designed. The stations’ daily GPS observations covering three years are analyzed. The solution is then combined with different network solutions and the datum of the combined solution has been fixed via appropriate pre-defined datum points. Two different solutions are obtained using diverse functional models and datum definitions. These solutions are compared to the so-called zero solution in which datum points are globally distributed. Only North-South (NS) and East-West (EW) components of the station coordinate time series are anticipated in the study. The height component is not included in the analysis. NS and EW velocity components are computed applying least squares linear regression to the station time series. Blunders in the time series are removed via robust estimation strategy. Spectral index values are estimated from the spectra of the residuals after least squares regression. Spectral indices are found to be close to –1. This confirms that the adjacent solutions consist of repeated signals and are also correlated. Time-frequency analysis or multiresolution analysis at selected locations is attempted. It has been shown that datum definition affects site velocities estimated from the time series. An alternative approach is suggested to deduce realistic uncertainty values from the series.
