Abstract
Pontine hemorrhages are seen rarely among intracerebral hemorrhages and the mortality is high. Since the advent of computerized tomography (CT), the incidence of pontine hemorrhages has increased arid the prognosis have proved better than it was thought. In this study we examined 14 patients hospitalized in Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital between 1988-1993. Diagnoses were confirmed through CT examination. The mean age of patients (10 males, 4 females) was 61.71 years. Nine patients had a history of hypertension. In the prognosis of pontine hemorrhages, localization and the extension of the hematoma, and the initial state of consciousness of the patient are important factors.

intraserebral kanamalar içinde pons hemorajileri nadir olarak görülür ve mortalitelerinin yüksek olduğu bilinirdi. Fakat görüntüleme yöntemlerinin kullanım ala¬nına girmesinden sonra pons hematomları insidansının bilinenden daha fazla olduğu ve prognozunun da daha iyi geliştiği görüldü. Bu çalışmamızda 1988-1993 yılları arasında Haydarpaşa Numune Hastanesi Nöroloji Klini-ği'nde yatırılarak izlenen ve kesin tanılan bilgisayarlı to¬mografi (BT) ile doğrulanmış 14 hastanın klinik özellik¬leri, BT bulguları ve prognozu incelendi. Onu erkek, dördü kadın olan hastalarda yaş ortalaması 61,71 olarak saptandı. Öyküde dokuz hastada hipertansiyon vardı. Ol¬gularımız dolayısıyla pons hematomlarında hastanın prognozunu belirlemede lokalizasyonun yanında, hema-tomun büyüklüğü, yayılım göstermesi ve hastanın baş¬langıçtaki bilinç düzeyinin de etkili faktörler olduğu gö¬rülmüştür.
