Abstract

A lot of research has been done about the factors, which might be predisposing asthma bronchiale in children. In this study, 97 children with asthma were compared with 94 children who do not have asthma with respect to their birth weight and their way of birth, either cesarean sec-tion or normal delivery. There were 35 girls, and 62 boys in the study group, 46 girls and 48 boys in the control group. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups with respect to gender (p=0.080). There was no statistically significant difference with respect to their ages eit-her (p=0.085). The rate of having been born with cesarean section was 15% in the study group (n=28), and 12% in the control group (n=22). No statistically significant difference was found between the two groups with respect to their birth way (p=0.414). The mean of birth weight was 3444±603 g in the study group, 3179+523 g in the control group. The two groups were not statistically significant with respect to their birth weight (p=0.080). We concluded that birth weight and having being born with cesarean section were not predisposing factors for asthma.
