Abstract

Cardiac Cyst Hydatid: CT and MRI Characteristics Objective: Cardiac hydatid cyst is a rare condition (0.5-2%). The cysts are located in the interventricular septum, left or right vetricular wall. In the present study, we report a case of cardiac hydatosis located in the interventricular septum, left atrium and right ventricle, discussing their computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics. Materials and Methods: A 48-year-old male patient was admitted to our hospital with dyspnea, back pain and tiredness. In the chest X-ray multiple noduler lesions were detected in both lungs. After the CT and MRI examinations, diagnosis of hydatidosis was confirmed with serologic tests. Results: Echocardiography and CT revealed multiple round cyst-like structures with irregular contours with 5 cm maximum diameter that originated from the interventricular septum. Findings were confirmed with MRI. Conclusion: Computed tomograhy and magnetic resonance imaging depicts the exact anatomical location and characteristics of the lesions easily so they can help both for surgery planning and follow-up.
