Abstract

Autotransplantation may be defined as the transplantation of impacted or erupted tooth, from one side to another in the same individu¬al, into extraction sites or surgically prepared sockets. Autotransplantation of teeth, if carri¬ed out succesfully, ensures that alveolar bone volume is maintained due to physiological sti¬mulation of the periodontal ligament. Autot¬ransplantation has been carried out for many years but with varying success, and ,is regar¬ded as an appropriate treatment option for patients with missing teeth. In this article, 12 year-old patient who has horizontally impac¬ted mandibular second molar autotransplanted into the enucleated cyst cavity at the same re¬gion, is presented with 2 year follow-up, and successful criteria are discussed.
