Abstract

Objectives: Aggresive periodontal diseases (AP) are a heterogeneous group of diseases, sharing several characteristics including aggresive and severe periodontal destruction. Although periodontopathogenic bacteria are primary etiologic agents in the disease process, affected individuals suggest genetic factors also are important. Aim: Both genetic and environmental risk factors are important in AP. Genetic polymorphisms in the Vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene are associated with parameters of bone homeostasis and with diseases in which bone loss is one feature of AP. There for, to determine whether AP is associated with a polymorphism in the VDR gene. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between AP and Apa I, Taq I polymorphisms of the VDR gene. Materials and Methods: 46 cases of early onset periodontitis patients and 49 healthy controls were recruited. VDR gene is amplified by using PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) technology. Genotypes are determined by PCR-RFLP (Restriction fragment length polymorphism) method. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the genotype distribution or the allel frequencies between the control samples and the L-EOP patient group (p>0.05).

Çalışmamızda AP ile VDR genindeki Apa I ve Taq I polimorfizmlerinin birlikteliğinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır.
