Abstract

Bone grafts are widely used for reconstruction of alveolar defect and oro-nasal fistula in cleft lip-palate patients. Timing of surgery and choice of graft material determine the success of defect reconstruction. The iliac crest is superior to other donor sites due to its osteoinductive capacity. The platelet-rich fibrin induces osteoblastic activity by the growth factors thereby it is considered to enhance regenerating capacity of iliac bone grafts. A -21- year old male patient was treated for the closure of unilateral alveolar cleft using particulated iliac bone graft with a platelet-rich fibrin membrane. Successful result was obtained with this technique and alveolar cleft was reconstructed and closed at one stage. The PRF technique is a reliable and easy method for reconstruction of compromised alveolar defects
