Abstract

In this study, the investigation of Miocene aged limestone fades located at Gökçeyazı-Kuskuncuk (Ereğli-Konya) has been aimed. According to the Logan at al (1964) classification the stromatolite types of lateral linked hemispheroidal (LLH type), stacked hemispheroidal (SH type) and onkoides (SS type) have been observed in the region. While thefluxiation of water level and energy have an important role on the formation of the LLH, SH and SS type stromatolites which are related to the blue-green algae such as Schizothrix sp., Scytonema sp. and Phormidium sp., the greenalgae Chara sp. in the environment helped the sedimentation of micritic matrix. On the other hand, as a result of microbiological activity, internal structure of some onkoides has partly or wholly destroyed. Siliceous sinter as well as root ball, fenestra and the levels of pellet-intraclast-bioclast have been observed in some of the levels of stromatolitic limestones which were found in the interface of fault blocks. The channelled hydrothermal and/or volcanic fluids in turnby these fault blocks are responsible from the formation of siliceous sinter. The stromatolitic limestones were divided, into five facies such as (1) lateral linked hemispheroidal stromatolite facies, (2) stacked hemispheroidal stromatolite facies, (3) oncoidal stromatolite facies, (4) intraclast-pellet-ooid grainstone/packstone, pellet-intraclast-biogene wackestone/packstone facies, and (5) crustal facies of siliceous sinter and all these occurrences have been formed in an evaporite lake which were filled by freshwater depending on the seasonal variations, the sedimentation were ended at the end of drying of lake.
