Abstract

In addition to the conglomerates and sandstone, abundant clay stone, siltstone, debris flow and slump deposits found in the different section of the depositional environment in the deep sea. Deep sea sediment that starts with conglomerates and sandstone similar to the Karataş Formation (Middle-Upper Miocene) that crops out in the Kapikaya area at the northern part of the Kahraman Maraş Basin has various thicknesses depend on amount of material and flow type. If there is no element to prevent their development similar to Kapıkaya channel that formed in the Karataş Formation, these types of coarse grained sediments laterally and vertically fining and passed up into finer sandstone and clay stone alternations. This property is repeated depend on sea level fluctuation, tectonism and/or seismic effects. However it is observed that under the again tectonic effects, normally anticipated transition properties as lateral and vertical fining was cut by different flow deposits such as debris flow and slump. It is thought that this situation that observed in the southeast extension of the Kapikaya channel evolved due to thrusts that restricted the Kahraman Maraş Basin.
