Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the presence of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans (A.actinomycetemcomitans), which is one of the spesific microorganisms that plays an important role on the etiology of agressif periodontal diseases in subjects with different ages and periodontal status. The isolation of A.actinomycetemcomitans from the microbial den-tal plaque samples of a total of 300 subjects in 0-19, 20-35 and 36 years old and older age groups whose number take place in 80, 111 and 109 persons in the same order, are made with culture method. %34 of 300 subjects are found A.actinomycetemcomitans positive which is %45 in 0-19, %44 in 20-35 and %15 in 36 age and older age groups. Existence of A.actinomycetemcomitans in 300 subjects which has different periodontal status is like that: %8 in 51 periodontally he-althy subjects, %14 in 99 subject with gingivitis, %84 in 49 subjects with localised juvenile periodontitis (LJP), %68 in 37 subjects with rapidly progressive periodontitis (RPP) and %24 in 62 subjects with adult periodontitis (AP). The rate of po-sitive subjects in first two age groups are found higher than 36 age and older age group. As a result, A.actinomycetemcomitans exists in periodontally healthy subjects and subjects with gingivitis, besides, A.actinomycetemcomitans seems more likely related with the agressive periodontal disease of young subjects. In order to find out the role of this microorganism in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease, it is necessary to follow up the A.actinomycetemcomitans existence and periodontal status, especially in the young subjects.
