Abstract

Positive relationship established between the father and the child and involvement of the father in the child's life has positive impacts on both the development of the child and the father's perception of his fatherhood roles. Effective involvement of the father in the child's life and positive relationship established between the father and the child have positive influences on the child's cognitive development, social and emotional development, personality development and particularly self-perception and self-confidence. Thus, the purpose of the current study is to investigate the opinions of the fathers whose children are attending a pre-school education institution about their state of spending time with their children through face-to-face procedure. In the current study employing descriptive survey model, "Father Interview Form" developed by the researchers and consisting of semi-structured questions was used as the data collection instrument. The study group of the current research is comprised of 80 fathers whose children are attending a pre-school education institution in 2013-2014 school year. The frequencies and percentages were calculated for the collected data and then tabulated. After that they were analyzed through content analysis method. At the end of the study it was concluded that the fathers spend most time with their children while playing. In addition to this, the fathers spend time with their children by chatting, visiting a zoo, going to a park, cinema and theatre, reading book, conducting experiments, drawing, doing sports, going shopping. It was also found that the fathers mostly spend 1-2 hours a day with their children but they find this time not enough.
