Abstract

As alternative fuel, various vegetable oils have been used in diesel engines. One of the vegetable oils preferred is cotton seed oil. One of the most important problem being met using cotton seed oil is high viscosity. High viscosity causes diffıculties in injection and atomisation. in this study, to solve the high viscosity problem methyl ester was obtained from cotton seed oil and mixed with diesel fuel in volumetrically ratio of %50. To be obtained the mixture were experienced in various injection pressure in a single cylinder, four stroke, air cooled and direct injection diesel engine and exhaust emissions value were measured. The exhaust emissions results were compared with diesel fuel emissions. Experimental results showed that cotton seed oil methyl ester and diesel fuel mixture emission results are less than diesel fuel emission results. Consequently it was understood that cotton seed oil methyl ester and diesel fuel mixture could be used in a diesel engine as an alternative fuel.
