Özet

Bu çalışmada öğretmenlerin görüşleri doğrultusunda öğretmenlik mesleğinin toplum nezdindeki itibarını belirlemek ve mesleki itibar üzerinde etkili olan faktörleri tespit etmek amaçlanmaktadır. Çalışma nitel araştırma desenlerinden durum çalışması desenine göre yürütülmüştür. Çalışma grubunu Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı’na bağlı devlet okullarında görev yapan 9 öğretmen oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcılar maksimum çeşitlilik örnekleme yöntemine göre farklı cinsiyet ve görev süreleri dikkate alınarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada elde edilen nitel veriler NVivo 10. programı kullanılarak kodlanmış, kodlara dayalı olarak alt kategorilere ve temalara ulaşılmıştır. Çalışmada katılımcıların Türkiye’de öğretmenlik mesleğinin itibarının günden güne azaldığına inandıkları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Katılımcılara göre; Türkiye’de öğretmenlik mesleğinin itibarının azalmasında; Türk Milli Eğitim Bakanları ve üst düzey bakanlık yönetici söylemleri, BİMER/CİMER ve Alo 147’ye yapılan şikâyetlerin incelenmesi sürecinden kaynaklanan problemler, öğretmen istihdam ve işsiz öğretmenler problemi, toplumda değişen değer algısı, öğretmenlerin yetki ve sorumluluklarının son yıllarda değişmesi, maaşların düşük olması, öğretmenlerden kaynaklanan problemler ve olumsuz medya haberleri gibi birden fazla faktör etkili olmaktadır.
