Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to examine the clustering of students from Turkey in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018 based on the frequency of exposure to peer bullying and whether these clusters differ in terms of variables such as students' gender, skipping school or some classes or arriving late to school. The sample of this research consists of 6890 students participating in PISA 2018 from Turkey and all of whom were born in 2002. In this study, three subgroups (clusters) that represent different and distinguishable characteristics within the respondent group but cannot be directly observed were revealed through the students' responses to the frequency of exposure to peer bullying survey with a two-step cluster analysis. These clusters were meaningful in terms of students’ levels in the observed variable and their sizes were determined to be 50%, 33% and 17% respectively, compared to the whole group. Based on the findings, it was concluded that students' gender, skipping school or classes and arriving late to school varied between the clusters and this variability was statistically significant.
