Abstract

Synkinesis is the contraction of involuntary musclegroup synchronously to the contraction of voluntarymuscle groups. Simultaneous contraction of oculonasalsynkinesis, orbicularis oculi, and compressor nariumminor muscle. Oculonasal synkinesis is a rarephenomenon. In a 18-year-old female patient who hadundergone open technical septorhinoplasty operation atour otolaryngology clinic, it was determined that themuscles surrounding the alar cartilages werecontracted bilaterally during the 6-month routinecontrol of the patient. Synkinesis was not present inthe patient before the operation. Botulinum toxin Awas applied to this patient as synkinesis treatment. After 10 days, no synkinesis was observed. Nocomplication developed. Prospectively, pre-treatment,with botulinum toxin A injection and after treatmentwas recorded with a series of videos.
