Abstract

Not only received and perceived but also provided socialsupport (SS) is currently ack- nowledged to have effects oncaregiver burden and other psychosocial outcomes ofcaregiving process. However, there are no tools in Turkeywhich measure SS provided by caregivers. This studyattempts to introduce the psychometric qualities of “TheProvided Social Support Sca- le” (PSSS) which is adaptedfor caregivers based on Social Support Providing BehaviorsInventory (Erol, 2008), tested on a sample of 200caregivers. Factor analysis revealed a three factorstructure; “provided” material, informational andemotional support with Cronbach’s alpha values of .80-.91.Although its factors’ correlations with perceived SS andburn-out are as expected only for Provided EmotionalSupport, intra-scale correlations, its factor structure andreliability values can be accepted as a suf cient evidence forPSSS’ psychometric properties. In conclusion, PSSS can ll abasic need in testing multidimensional effects of SS incaregiving/taking process.
