Abstract

This study conducted in 1999 was designed to determine the properties of cotton fiber and some yarn characters and to clarify the nature of associations between fiber and yarn properties in seven cotton varieties (Gossypium hirsutum L.) grown in Harran conditions. The direct and positive influences of fiber strength and micronaire reading on yarn tenacity were found to be responsible for 88.26% and 12.07 %, respectively. The value of the direct effect of fiber strength was greater than one (1.089), it is evident that the effect of fiber stregth on yarn tenacity was much superior to any direct effects of the other fiber properties correlated to yarn strength and fiber strength. A remarkable positive direct effect of fiber tenacity on yarn tenacity confirms that stronger cotton fibers produce stronger yarns.
