Abstract

In this study, sister chromatid exchange (SCE) test was used to determine the effects of anaesthetic gases on chromosomes of persons from the operating room. Peripheral blood samples were collected and cultured from 37 persons who are exposed to anaesthetic gases and 39 persons who are not exposed to anaesthetic gases. At the time, operating room personnel were divided according to the work times. SCE, mitotic index (MI) and replication index (RI) values of all persons were investigated. A significant decrease in SCE values were determined in the group of 10 years-beyond exposed to anaesthetic gases into the operating room as compared to unexposed controls (p0.05).
