However, it is stili hard to say that there is a mature cruise line business due to the inferior design standards of Turkish vessels. It is not uncommon that joumeys are canceled on Istanbul-Barcelona, Istanbul-Egypt and Istanbul-Haifa lines due to low demand. Because of the unsuitability of the infrastructure of the ports for cruise vessels, Turkey can not jully take advantage of its natural beauties.

Deniz turizmi olarak adlandırabileceğimiz kurvaziyer gemilerle yolcu taşımacılığı ilk defa Albert Blain tarafından 1890'da başlatılmıştır. Almanya’nın 1930 yılında kurvaziyer gemilere devlet desteği sağlamasıyla kurvaziyer turizm dünyada büyük bir gelişme göstermiştir. Türkiye'de ilk kurvaziyer gemi işletmeciliği II. Dünya Savaşı'ndan sonraki yıllarda "Ege" adlı liner yolcu gemisiyle başlamıştır. Ancak günümüzde dahi Türk gemilerinin dizayn standartları düşük olduğu için gerçek anlamda kurvaziyer gemi işletmeciliğinden söz edilemez. Türkiye'nin kurvaziyer yolcu taşımacılığı yaptığı İstanbul-Barcelona, İstanbul-Mısır; İstanbul-Hayfa hatlarında zaman zaman talep azlığından seferler iptal edilmektedir. Kurvaziyer gemilerin limanlara yanaşabilmeleri için uygun altyapı imkanlarının çok az olduğu ülkemiz bu sebeple sahip olduğu doğal zenginlikleri yeterince pazarlayamamaktadır.
