Abstract

Enterobius vermicularis is a common parasite all over the world, settled in the appendix vermiformis andcecum.A 35-year-old woman was admitted to the emergency department with sudden onset of right lower quadrantpain, showed right iliac fossa tenderness on physical examination. No significant leukocytosis was detectedby laboratory examinations. Laparoscopic appendectomy was performed, with a preoperative diagnosis ofacute appendicitis. The histopathological examination revealed the presence of enterobius vermicularis in theappendix vermiformis lumen. There was no acute inflamation in the wall of appendix vermiformis.Herein, a case of acute appendicitis caused by enterobius vermicularis which is one of the rare causes of acuteappendicitis is presented.

Özet

Enterobius vermikularis çekum ve appendiks vermiformiste yerleşim gösteren, dünya çapında yaygın olarakgörülen bir parazittir.Acil servise ani başlayan sağ alt kadran ağrısı ile başvuran 35 yaşındaki kadın hastanın fizik muayenesinde sağiliak fossa hassasiyeti mevcuttu. Laboratuar tetkiklerinde lökositoz saptanmadı. Akut appendisit ön tanısı ilelaparoskopik appendektomi uygulandı. Histopatolojik inceleme ile appendiks vermiformis lümeninde entero- bius vermikularis saptandı. Appendiks vermiformis duvarında akut inflamasyonun bulunmadığı görüldü.Burada, akut appendisitin nadir nedenlerinden biri olan enterobius vermikularise bağlı bir akut appendisitolgusu sunulmuştur.
