Abstract

One of the first food sources of humans are chestnut and it is an important natural resource used in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. The genus Castanea has nine species in the world: one species of the genus, Castanea sativa Mill. grows naturally in our country. The fruits of this species are used in confectionery and dessert making, the flowers are used in beekeeping, and the leaves and shells are used medicinally. The fruit, leaves, flowers and bark of Castanea sativa are used as non-wood forest product. For this reason, it is aimed to analyze the harvest data of the General Directorate of Forestry between 1989-2017 and to reveal the value provided by the ethnobotanical uses of chestnut in Turkey. The first harvest record of chestnut fruit belongs to 1989, 302 tons of fruit were collected from Balıkesir Regional Directorate of Forestry and 20 TL income was obtained. Between 1989 and 2017, maximum amount of chestnut harvested was carried out from Kastamonu Regional Directorate of Forestry as 4.241 tons, minimum amount of harvest was carried out from Amasya Regional Directorate of Forestry as 112 kg. According to the results of the trend analysis test, it was found that there was a statistically significant trend in the direction of increase only in Bursa Regional Directorate of Forestry.
