Abstract

Oral malignant melanoma (OMM) accounts for0.5% of all oral malignancies which are generallylocalized in hard and soft plate or gingival tissues inoral cavity. It is suggested that this neoplasms aredeveloping from melanocytes found in the basal layerof the oral mucosa. The mal ignant melanomas of oralsoft tissues are described as oral mucosal malignantmelanoma and they should be clearly established inthe clinical examination. Th ese lesions are rare butthey have aggressive and metastatic character. So,they have an unequivoca l bad prognosis. Therefore, the diagnosis may be delayed because of theirasymptomatic progression. In this paper, we aimed topresent a multidisciplinary treatment method of 52year-old female patient with oral mucosal melanomaand to emphasize importance of early diagnosis ofth ese lesions.

Özet

Oral bölgede genellikle yumuĢak ve sert damakveya diĢetlerinde lokalize olan malign melanomalar,tüm oral mali gnitelerin %0,5ini oluĢturur. Buneoplazmların oral mukozanın bazal tabakasındabulunan melanositlerden geliĢtiği düĢünülmektedir.Ağız yumuĢak dokularında görülen malignmelanomalar, oral mukozal malign melanoma olaraktanımlanırlar ve klinik muayenede be lirgin olarakgözlemlenebi lir.
