Abstract

Aim: The aim of this in vitro study is to evaluate the effect of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on the adhesion of Co-Cr metal specimens cemented with permanent and temporary cements to dentin surface. Material and Methods: In this study, forty extracted human molar teeth without caries were randomly divided into subsets (n = 10) based on application of MRI and dental cement system. Co-Cr metal specimens were fabricated using laser sintering system in the final dimensions of 7 mm in diameter and 3 mm in thickness. After separating the enamel tissue on the occlusal surface of the teeth with a diamond blade, the samples were cemented with selected cement system and MRI was applied to the planned groups. MRI was not applied to the control groups of both cement systems. The samples were kept in 37oC water for 24 hours and placed to the universal test device. Shear bond strength test was performed to assess the effect of MRI on the adhesion of metal specimens to dentin surface. Data were expressed in megapascals. Results: In the permanent cement group, the shear bond strength values of the MRI group (2.27±0.39) was lower than that of the without MRI group (2.62±0.44), but this difference is not reached significance level (p>0.05). Similarly, in the temporary cement group, the shear bond strength values of the MRI group (0.50±0.22) was lower than that of the without MRI group (0.85±0.30), but this difference is not reached significance level (p>0.05). Conclusion: In patients using prosthesis made of Co-Cr alloy, MRI for 15 minutes decreases the bond strength of the restoration to dentin surface, but this is negligible.

Veriler megapascal cinsindenkaydedildi.
