Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Currently incidence of hepatitis A is shifting to an advanced age and the virüs seem to cause a significant clinical disease at advanced ages. There is a considerable segment of population susceptible to HAV. The aim of the study was to investigate the seroprevalance of hepatitis A for adults age groups.METHODS: In this study, the seropositivity of hepatitis A infection of patients who had attended to Bezmialem Vakif University Hospital were retrospectively evaluated between 30 October 2011 and 31 December 2013. Anti-HAV IgG was tested by chemiluminescence method Cobas 6000, Roche, Almanya . RESULTS: A total of 787 adult patients, 390 49.5% male and 397 50.5% female, were included in the study. Anti HAV IgG positivity was detected in 630 80.0% patients. Of the anti-HAV IgG positive patients, 318 50.5% were male, and 312 49.5% were female. Anti-HAV IgG seropositivity increased with age. However, 57.2% of the patients in 17-27 years age group were still anti-HAV IgG negative. CONCLUSION: HAV infections in adult patients is more severe than in children. In our study high seronegativity against to HAV infection in young adults were noticed. Therefore, we recommend that subjects who are susceptible against to HAV infections in the 17-27 age group might be included in the routine immunization schedule.

Anti HAV IgG seropozitif kişilerin 318’i %50.5 erkek, 312’si %49.5 kadındı. Çalışmada 17-27 erişkin yaş grupları arasında %57.2 oranında seronegatiflik saptandı. SONUÇ: HAV enfeksiyonları erişkin yaşlarda çocuklardakinden daha ciddi seyirli olmaktadır. Biz bu çalışmada 17-27 yaş grubundaki genç erişkinlerde HAV enfeksiyonlarına karşı yüksek oranda duyarlılık saptadık. Bu nedenle genç erişkin yaş grubundaki bireylerin de rutin aşılama şeması içerisinde yer almasını öneriyoruz.
