Abstract

Objective: The aims of this study were to identify the species of 38 yeast strain isolated from various clinical specimens and determine their antifungal susceptibility patterns. Methods: We identified the species of the yeast with API ID 32 C kit, and determined the in vitro antifungal susceptibility to flucytosine, amphotericin B, fluconasole, itraconazole and voriconasole with API ATB Fungus kit. Results: A total of 153 yeast sample is examined. Candida albicans and non-albicans species were isolated in 112 examples. The isolated 31 strains (28%) were from urine, 45 strains (40%) were from blood, 11 strains (9%) were from wounds, 5 strains (5%) were from abscesses, 8 strains (7%) were from respiratory tract samples, 4 strains (% 4) were from sputum, 3 strains (3%) were from ascites fluid, 4 strains (3%) were from vagina, 1 strain (1%) was isolated from cerebrospinal fluid material. A total of 112 Candida species were isolated and these consisted of 56(50%) C. albicans, 7(6%) C.glabrata, 27(24%) C. parapsilosis, 7(6%) C. tropicalis, 3(2%) C.guillermondii, 12(11%) C. Kefyr species. The resistance rates determined by exam with ATB Fungus 3 kit for flucytosine, amphotericin, fluconasole, itraconasole and voriconasole were as follows; 5 (4%), 3 (3%), 43 (38%), 55 (49%) and 48 (43%) respectively. Conclusion: This study examined the presence of variety of yeast species and their in vitro susceptibility patterns to antifungal agents in different clinical specimens.

Özet

Amaç: Bu çalışmada, çeşitli klinik örneklerden izole edilen 38 maya suşunun tür tanımlaması ve antifungal duyarlılıklarının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Mayalar API ID 32 C kiti ile tiplendirilmiş, API ATB Fungus kiti ile de flusitozin, amfoterisin B, flucanazol, ıtrakanazol’e ve vorikonazol karşı in vitro antifungal duyarlılıkları saptanmıştır. Bulgular: Toplam 153 örnek maya mantarı açısından incelendiğinde; 112 örnekte albicans ve non-albicans olmak üzere candida türleri izole edilmiştir. Suşların 31(%28)’i idrar, 45(%40)’i kan, 11(%9)’i yara, 5(%5)’i apse, 8(%7)’i solunum materyali, 4(%4)ü balgam, 3(%3)’ü parasentez, 4(%3)’ü vagen, 1(%1)’i BOS materyalinden izole edilmiştir. Toplam üretilen 112 candida türlerinin 56(% 50)’si C. albicans, 7(%6)’i C. glabrata, 27(%24 )’si C.parapsilosis, 7(%6)’si C.tropicalis, 3(%2)’ü C.guillermondii, 12(%11)’u C.kefyr’den oluşmaktadır. ATB Fungus 3 kitiyle yapılan incelemede direnç oranları şu şekilde saptanmıştır; flusitozin’e 5(%4), amfoterisin B’ye 3(%3), flukonazol’e 43(%38), ıtrakonazol’e 55(%49) ve varikonazol’e 48(%43) oranında direnç saptanmıştır. Sonuç: Candida infeksiyonlarının tedavisinde etkenlerin tür tanımlaması ve antifungal duyarlılıklarının saptanması gerektiği anlaşılmıştır.
