Abstract

Objective: In our study, it is aimed to determine the general clinical features, survival and the importance of prognostic factors that might influence survival in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and compare their accordance with literature patients diagnosed at our center. Patients and Methods: Demographics of 52 patients who admitted to hematology department between 2005 and 2012 were investigated retrospectively. Results: The mean follow-up period of the patients is 52.3 (10-60) months. 18 of the patients were female, 34 were male, and the mean age was 69.31 ± 10.448 (46-93). The mean age of male patients was 69 ± 9.7 years and the mean age of female patients was 69.7 ± 11.9 years. As age increased, it was determined that hemoglobin value decreased (p= 0.006) and lymphocyte value increased in male patients compared to female patients (p= 0.002). A statistically significant relationship was found between hemoglobin and lymphocyte values and age and gender. The 5-year survival was 94.1% in stage A, 75.9% in stage B, and 16.7 percent in stage C, and a statistically significant difference was found between stage and survival (p= 0.000). The most important factor affecting survival was determined as stage (p= 0.000). Survival with β2 microglobulin level (P=0.04), LDH (p= 0.05), CD38 expression rate (p= 0.02), gender (p= 0.02), and CI uptake pattern (p= 0.05) was found to be statistically significant Conclusion: Staging systems are insufficient to identify individuals who are at an early stage at diagnosis but who will develop progressive disease during follow-up. High-risk patients should be identified by evaluating prognostic factors in addition to stage during diagnosis and treatment.
