Abstract

Multicultural education is an approach that provides recognition and integration with different cultures as the basic foundations of interpersonal respect, unconditional acceptance and tolerance, accepting this diversity in cultures as a state of color and richness, and making it possible for other individuals to see and meet all these differences positively. In this research, it is aimed to examine the texts in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade life studies textbooks used in the 2020-2021 academic year in the context of multicultural education. The study was collected from textbooks with document analysis, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The texts in the life studies textbooks were examined in line with the problems of the research. As a result of the content analysis, three themes were reached as "Phrases that develop positive attitudes towards immigrants, Expressions about respecting differences and Universal expressions about the acceptance of different cultures", and a total of 28 codes emerged based on these themes. In the research, it was concluded that the expressions about multiculturalism in the texts in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade LST did not show a balanced distribution to the themes in the textbooks, and as the grade level increased, the expressions about the understanding of multicultural education increased in the texts in the life studies textbooks.
