Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of course contents that prepared according to problem-solving steps and strategies on geometry achievement and geometric habits of mind (GHoM) of preservice mathematics teacher. A total of 38 preservice mathematics teachers participated in this study, which was conducted with a quasi-experimental method. The study was carried out through the "Geometry Teaching and Measurement" course was divided into two groups as experimental (N=19) and control (N=19). Although both the content of the course prepared in the experimental group and the control group were based on GHoMs, Experimental group courses were provided with the problem-solving steps and strategies. Both group courses were conducted in an online learning environment through the "Microsoft Teams" program. The data of the study were obtained from the geometry achievement. Findings revealed that there was a positive and significant relationship between the lessons taught according to the problem-solving steps and strategies and the levels of geometry achievements and using GHoM. This means that the pre-service teachers in the experimental group were more successful in geometry achievement and the level of using GHoM habits than the control group. In addition, each indicator of GHoM of the preservice teachers in the experimental group was higher than the control group. Moreover, each indicator of GHoM of the preservice teachers in the experimental group was higher than the control group.
