Abstract

The spread of Northern [Exserohilum turcicum (Pass.) K.J. Leonard & Suggs] and Southern [Bipolaris maydis (Y.Nisk. & C. Miyake) Shoemaker] leaf blight diseases in corn was investigated in 5 geographical regions including 13 different provinces between the years of 2014 and 2015. The spread of Northern Leaf Blight disease (NLB) was measured as 50.7%, 38.5%, 37.8%, 29.8%, 23.1%, 17.7%, 7.1%, 4.5% and 2.2% in Samsun, Mersin, Ordu, Kahramanmaraş, Adana, Osmaniye, Sakarya, Mardin and Şanlıurfa provinces, respectively. In the year of 2015, the spread of NLB was found to be 81.7%, 53.2%, 49.1%, 22.5%, 8.6%, 7.5%, 5.8% and 1.6% in the provinces of Sakarya, Samsun, Ordu, Osmaniye, Adana, Mardin, Şanlıurfa and Mersin respectively. No Southern Leaf Blight disease (SLB) detected during field surveys of 2014. However, in the year of 2015, the field surveys performed in Ordu and Samsun provinces showed that the spread of SLB were 10.1% and 2.9% in these provinces. The 70 isolates of both leaf blight diseases were stored either in cryogenic tubes with or without 15 percent glycerol under -85 oC and in slant tubes containing PDA.

Özet

Kuzey [Exserohilum turcicum (Pass.) K.J.
