Abstract

Shear wave anisotropy analysis is simply to identify difference of directional S wave velocities. Directional S wave differentiation is the result of anisotropy in the medium, which is created by aligned features such as fractures, joints, bedding planes, etc. In a case study in the Tokaris and Besikli oil fields, directional shear wave anisotropy analysis have been carried out to detect anisotropy due to microfractures in the reservoir intervals, and observe their behavior under variable confining pressure. The productive carbonate reservoir rocks in the study area are the Mardin Group, including the Karababa Formation C member, Derdere Formation. The Karaboğaz Formation is the cap rock. Shear wave anisotropy analysis shows that Karababa Formation is more ahisotropic than Karaboğaz Formation. Shear wave velocity in Karaboğaz is about 2050-2250 m/s and 2300-2500 m/s in the Karababa C member. Vp/Vs ratio in the Karababa C member varies between 1.8 to 2.02 depending on anisotropy variation. Microfractures apertures are closed at 2700 psi without applying pore pressure during the tests.
