Abstract

Borehole image logs are electrical and acoustic maps of the wellbore surface. They play an important role in interpreting structural and stratigraphie features because of their high vertical resolution. Image logs can be used to detect small-scale faults, fractures, and bed-ding planes that intersect the boreholes. Cumulative dip plots help to identify subtle faults which serve as permeability conduits and lead to fracture development in reservoirs. In this study, subtle faults have been identified using borehole image log interpretation from Saymdere, Karaboğaz and Karababa Formations, and the results are integrated with seismic data. The fault trend is N 04° E and it has a 70° SE dip direction. The fractures are conjugate in two sets. sHmax (horizontal maximum principal stress) orientation in the well is about N-S. 20°-30° dihedral angle between the fracture sets and sHmax orientation implies that these fractures are a combination of shear and hybrid fracture sets.
