Abstract

The service delivery model implemented along with transformation in health in Turkey led to a fragmented and discontinuous structure in services related to women s health. It is possible to say that the existing sexual/reproductive health services embody almost all elements that are approved and recognized internationally and that in quantitative terms there have been significant changes in this area within the last 40 years. However, maternal deaths, as the most ex treme and characteristic indication of the violation of human rights of women, now have a tendency to rise since 20 10 after a long trend of decline and there are hints that healthcare services in this area may get even worse. In assessing age 15-49 pregnancy and postnatal monitoring as well as family planning services, it is necessary to focus on the quality of services rather than bare figures. While doing this, it should be born in in mind that ensuring women s full and equal access to high quality services is one of the preconditions of fulfilling women s human rights.
