Abstract

Happiness has been handled within the framework of the dominant ontological paradigm throughout history,. Even though the way of explaining the unhappiness of the individual and society has changed within these paradigms through the Middle Ages, enlightenment and movement throughout the 21st century, the quality of handling this unhappiness in a way that does not lead to dissatisfaction and objection has been preserved. While the church was the main institution in the Western world that persuaded the masses not to rebel because of their unhappiness during the Middle Ages, positive psychology and personal development culture seem to have taken over this mission in the modern times.
